Background and Discussion:
Maternal Mental Health participants include individuals across the fertility spectrum: individuals who are trying to become pregnant, navigating antepartum care, grieving loss after pregnancy, expressing interest in mental health support connected to birthing and postpartum care. The project identifies and reduces symptomology related to Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders through mental health screenings and care plan coordination. Greater Houston Counseling Services will provide clinical treatment options which include but are not limited to psychiatric assessment, medication evaluation/management, and outpatient individual and family therapy based on clinician recommendations. This contract allows access to psychiatric evaluation, individual/family sessions and virtual care options for the birthing person as well as the entire family unit to bring about holistic healing to those involved. The aim of the Maternal Mental Health initiative is to improve the accessibility of comprehensive maternal mental healthcare for birthing persons and modern families within Harris County.
