Background and Discussion:
Through funding made possible by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Harris County Public Health will provide training and deployment of community health workers (CHWs) to response efforts and by building and strengthening community resilience to fight COVID-19 through addressing existing health disparities. The Community Health Workers for COVID Response and Resilient Communities (CCR) Program provides a mechanism in which HCPH will be able to expand its COVID-19 response through community health worker engagement and partnerships with community-based organizations. The purpose of the grant is to build resilience in communities while strengthening ties between community health workers, partner organizations and COVID-19 response efforts. This agreement will allow HCPH to expand community health worker activities in response to COVID-19 by carrying over unspent funds from year 1 into year 2 activities.
