Background and Discussion:
The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) grant program seeks to enhance and coordinate efforts among local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in order to eliminate or reduce drug trafficking and its harmful consequences in critical regions of the United States. Grant funds will be used to pay for the salary and benefits of an analyst, overtime costs, vehicle rental costs, facility and equipment lease, and any other associated costs for the HIDTA program.

Expected Impact:
Grant funds will enable the HCSO to continue providing several law enforcement initiatives aimed at reducing the supply and trafficking of illegal drugs. There will be no impact to the general fund budget. There is no required match for this grant.

Alternative Options:
Not applying for this grant would cause the Sheriff's Office to forfeit the opportunity to receive $1,034,092.
