Background and Discussion:
This grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security via the Office of the Governor, Homeland Security Grants Division and includes a suite of risk-based grants to assist state, local, tribal and territorial efforts in preventing, protecting against, mitigating, responding to and recovering from acts of terrorism and other threats related to interoperable communications. This grant provides jurisdiction with resources required for implementing the National Preparedness System and working toward the National Preparedness Goal of a secure and resilient nation. The County has received funding from this grant program since 2002.

Expected Impact:
If accepted, the County will utilize Urban Area Security Initiative funds in the amount of $60,785.36 for the Harris County Law Enforcement Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs) award and $546,250 for the Law Enforcement Special Responses: HCSO Bomb, SWAT, and SRG (DVE Equipment).
