Background and Discussion:
Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has agreed to partner with Harris County Sheriff's Office to offer a two-year affiliation agreement to offer Law Enforcement and First Responders Track pre-doctoral internship placement for the period of July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027.
This internship track appears to be the first of its kind in the country. A psychology intern has obtained a master's degree in their field, has completed or is close to completing their doctoral dissertation, and is in the last year of training before obtaining a doctorate degree in psychology. The internship is an extremely competitive APA accredited 12-month full-time position. The intern is an employee of BCM who receives a salary plus benefits through BCM. The intern will be with HCSO four days per week as part of the internship experience. The internship might provide a pipeline for future employees and create goodwill for the county. The intern Hope Marceaux will be selected for the July 01, 2025, to June 30, 2026, term.
