Background and Discussion:
Housing and Community Development's Office of Transit Services has funding from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) available for construction of the La Porte Sidewalk Improvement Project - Phase II for the purpose of installing new crosswalks and sidewalks, demolition and removal of existing sidewalks, pavement marking, stripping, street signage, wheelchair, ramps, and program costs for DEEO wage compliance at S. Broadway Street between the City of La Porte Recreation and Fitness Center and Fairmont Parkway, within La Porte, Texas. The improvements must be within one-half mile of a transit stop. The City of La Porte, Texas will provide the local share funds to pay for the remainder of the costs.

Expected Impact:
The sidewalk improvement along will provide barrier free mobility and safe access to transit bus stops for disabled, elderly, and working individuals in La Porte, Texas. Harris County is devoting $144,588.96 in FTA 5307 grant funds for this project.
