Background and Discussion:
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has served as a green building and sustainable development resource to local governments since the founding of the non-profit organization. Through the LEED for Cities Certification Cohort Program, USGBC convenes local governments in an accelerator program to deliver targeted solutions and support to cities and counties in a trusted peer to peer learning community.
The LEED for Cities rating system was built by and for local governments pursuing a more resilient future. It is intended to serve as a roadmap and guide for local efforts while accelerating progress at the jurisdictional scale. An independent, third-party verification provides transparency and accountability toward sustainability and climate commitments.
