Background and Discussion:

On February 23, 2023, the Texas Transportation Commission authorized the connection of the Sam Houston Tollway at State Highway 225 partial interchange and the development of an agreement between Harris County and TxDOT. This agreement was approved by the Commissioners Court on April 25, 2023, and is for the design, construction, and maintenance of five direct connectors and the design of the remaining three direct connectors at the interchange.

This request is for the advertisement of the construction of four direct connectors (northbound/westbound, northbound/eastbound, southbound/westbound, and southbound/eastbound), the widening of the westbound State Highway 225 mainlanes for entrance/exit ramp construction, and reconstructing of the eastbound State Highway 225 frontage road to provide room for direct connectors.

The construction of the westbound/northbound direct connector will be completed in coordination with the completion of the northbound portion of the Ship Channel Bridge project.  The request to advertise for the construction of the remaining four direct connectors will be brought back for future Court approval.

Expected Impact:

Approval of the project will enable drivers to transition between the two roads without having to stop at traffic lights which will improve mobility in the area.
