Background and Discussion:

The Channel Ownership Program team of the Flood Control District has worked in conjunction with the City of Houston to assume responsibility for the specified open channel, which was built and managed by the City of Houston. The primary aim of the Channel Ownership Program has been to pinpoint drainage infrastructure in the county that would benefit from the services provided by the Flood Control District’s Infrastructure Department and to incorporate these areas into the Flood Control District’s regular mowing rotation. This channel segment is situated within the Buffalo Bayou watershed.

Expected Impact:

The impact on the Flood Control District will be the addition of maintenance responsibility for the identified channel. However, this channel reach will be better serviced since it will be consistently maintained and monitored by the Flood Control District’s Infrastructure Division and their mowing contractors.

Alternative Options:

The only alternative would be to take no action. However, this would be detrimental, in the long term, as the Flood Control District is better equipped to maintain open channels compared to the City of Houston.
