Request by the Office of County Administration for approval to accept an amendment to an agreement with the MacArthur Foundation extending the grant end date to February 28, 2025 for the Safety + Justice Challenge Sustainability grant program.

Background and Discussion:
The County was chosen in 2016 as one of eleven jurisdictions across the United States to receive $2 million to implement strategies for justice system improvement. In 2019, we applied for a renewal grant and received $2.1 million to continue the SJC work and expand our strategy. In 2021, we were awarded an additional $500,000 over the course of 2 years for the SJC Sustainability grant. Without this amendment The SJC Sustainability Grant would have expired on February 29, 2024.
Expected Impact:
The grant funds will enable us to continue work begun under the Safety + Justice Challenge grant, including support of the RIC docket, community engagement grants, and racial and ethnic equity training.
Alternative Options:
Not approve the SJC Sustainability grant extension, in which case the grant will expire, and the remaining funds will go unused.
