Background and Discussion:
This is a request to authorize negotiation for an agreement that will provide engineering services to advance the recommended alternative identified in a feasibility study through preliminary engineering, design, and construction stages. The recommended alternative includes construction of additional stormwater detention volume in the vicinity of tributary D140-04-00. The project area is near the intersection of Beltway 8 and West Airport Boulevard in Harris County Precinct 1. This project is funded as part of the 2018 Bond Program under the Bond ID F-08. This project occurs in the 2nd quartile under the 2022 Prioritization Framework approved by Commissioners Court.
Expected Impact:
The PER report will evaluate the multiple potential stormwater detention basin sites along tributary D140-00-00 and D140-04-00. Once the project is constructed, it will mitigate the flooding issue along Beltway 8 and West Airport Boulevard.
Alternative Options:
An alternative option is to select another consultant; however, that would result in delays to this project, further delaying flood risk reduction in the area.
