Request by the Constable of Precinct 8 for approval of an elected Constables salary study.

Background and Discussion:
Constables have not had a salary increase since 2016 when a 3% cost of living increase was last approved. Since then, members of our respective staffs have received several salary increases that were approved by Commissioner’s Court, but none of those increases applied to the elected official. As a result, Assistant Chief Deputies and Chief Deputies are now compensated at a higher rate of pay than the elected Constables.
Expected Impact:
A study on elected Constable’s compensation, if so ordered by Commissioners Court, would allow for an analysis and recommendation to be made on this matter to correct this inequity. Commissioners Court could then hold public hearings with the goal of properly compensating elected Constables in Harris County.
