Background and Discussion:

Request for approval to negotiate with Design Workshop for Professional Architectural and/or Engineering Services to provide Design Implementation for Veterans Memorial Park (Phase I), UPIN 24102MF34K01, Precinct 2.

In March 2023, Comm. Precinct 2 submitted a request to Harris County Engineering Department’s PMO to manage the design and construction phase services of the Veterans Memorial Park based on the court approved Masterplan study. On October 31, 2023, Harris County Engineering submitted a request for approval to advertise for professional services.  An RFQ was posted, and the highest-ranking vendor was selected by the evaluation committee.  This is a request to Negotiate with the Design Workshop.

Expected Impact:

The goal and objective are to identify the highest priority features of the master plan for the initial phase of developments within the park.  The master planned park will include fitness areas, playgrounds, dog park(s), and restrooms(s) and will be designed to be all-inclusive.   This will transform the under-utilized property into a community hub for social connection and interaction.

Alternative Options:

If no action is taken, Veterans Memorial Park will continue to be underutilized.
