Background and Discussion:

This project is the design and rehabilitation of the existing Grayson/ Baldree Community Center that is located at 13828 Corpus Christi St., Houston, TX 77015. The project is for the rehabilitation and addition to the Leon Z. Grayson/Baldree (Grayson) Community Center serving the North Channel Area Channelview/Cloverleaf/Highlands/North Shore/Sheldon). The existing facilities are both located at 13828 Corpus Christi St., Houston, TX 77015 on a 63,000 square foot tract of land owned by the County of Harris. Grayson is a 5,880 square foot metal building, and Baldree is a 10,507 square foot metal building. The community center was constructed in the 1980s and is open to the public daily providing a variety of recreational classes including performing arts, dancing, and fine arts. The community center provides safe, healthy, and fun experiences for residents of all ages in the North Channel Area. Precinct 2 is requesting $9,918,011 for the design, rehabilitation of, and addition of 750-square feet to the facility. The additional space will be dedicated space for Sheriff’s use.

Expected Impact:

The project aligns with Precinct 2’s goal of upgrading facilities that have exhausted their useful life. The existing building needs a roof replacement, a new HVAC system, an upgrade to the electrical wiring,

new plumbing, and interior and exterior upgrades.

• The renovation of the facility will lower operational and maintenance costs, enhance security, provide a safer and more accessible facility, be energy efficient, and enhance the technology.

• The project will also include essential infrastructure updates to ensure compliance with health and safety. All these upgrades will equip Precinct 2 staff to better serve the community.

Alternative Options:

If not approved,  the alternative funding will need to be identified to complete the project.
