Background and Discussion:

The grant application proposes to replace the older Michael Talbott Service Center diesel engine equipment with new all electric equipment and expand the Michael Talbott Service Center’s existing onsite refueling infrastructure by adding solar panels. This grant would be funded through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Texas Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Program (TxVEMP).

Expected Impact:

The project benefits include reduced pollution from the Michael Talbott Service Center diesel engine equipment as well as using solar panels to provide electricity for the Michael Talbott South Service Center.

Pollution from Michael Talbott Service Center diesel engine equipment will be reduced by approximately 0.1 tons/year of greenhouse gases. Pollution will also be reduced by 2,390 tons/year of greenhouse gas by replacing fossil fuel generated electricity with solar panel generated electricity.

Alternative Options:

The Michael Talbott Service Center diesel engine equipment could be replaced over time and solar panels could be installed as funds are available through the annual budget request process.
