Background and Discussion:

The project is located in north Harris County in the Cypress Creek watershed, north of FM 1960, south of Cypress Creek, and east of Hardy Toll Road.  The project area consists of approximately 84 acres of single-family residential homes. The existing system is a concrete curb and gutter and primarily drains into Briar Creek (K117-00-00). A 72" RCP with associated inlets also aids in draining the western portion of the site. The scope of the project includes constructing a drainage swale and underlying storm sewer behind the commercial tract along FM 1960.

Expected Impact:

This project seeks to reduce flood risk and strengthen resiliency in Harris County by assisting in the alleviation of structural flood damage to homes in the community. This contract is a step in the process to reduce the financial, physical, and emotional burden flood damage places on homeowners and will reduce the financial impact of recovery costs to the Memorial Hills subdivision homeowners, Harris County, and FEMA. The fiscal impact for this project will come from the 1080 Funding for the Recovery and Resiliency Division subdivision projects with the long-term goal of reducing drainage costs in the future. No impact on project schedule or staffing anticipated.

Alternative Options:

If no action is taken, the engineer of record will not be accessible for support through the construction of the project.
