Background and Discussion:

As part of Harris County’s efforts to increase resiliency of its communities in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, a voluntary relocation program was adopted to provide residents and businesses located in areas with a history of severe, repetitive flooding the opportunity to move to a safer location. In early 2021, a mandatory relocation program was developed, now known as the Mandatory Buyout Program.

 

This report outlines program progress to date, summaries of outstanding properties and cases, concerns, and actions to remediate concerns.

 

Expected Impact:

The report intends to provide transparency on current buyout program progress and subsequent actions to ensure program completion by deadlines set through the Texas General Land Office.
