Background and Discussion:
Harris County Resources for Children and Adults has been the recipient of Child Sex Trafficking/VOCA funding for five years. The VOCA program is administered by the Office of the Governor. Monies received through this funding source has allowed Harris County Resources for Children and Adults to provide Care Coordination services among social service providers and law enforcement for child sex trafficking victims in the Houston/Harris County Region. The goals of the program are to: reduce duplicative cases and parallel interventions; divert survivors from the criminal justice system; and to shorten the time to deliver services.
Thanks to these grant funds, the TRIAD Home Safe (formerly TRIAD Child Sex Trafficking) project is able to offer site-based services comprised of a multi-disciplinary team of experts in forensic medicine, protective services, substance use, social services, civil and criminal prosecution and law enforcement collaborating to address the complex needs of minor victims of child sex trafficking and exploitation.
The award provides budget for personnel, grant-related supplies, equipment and travel. This year, there is no match required for this funding.
Expected Impact:
As a result of this funding opportunity and the many collaborative affiliations that have been developed, we will continue to be able to successfully coordinate services among social service providers and law enforcement for child sex trafficking victims, which has provided life altering outcomes for the many program participants. With this support, it is expected that child sex trafficking victims will continue receiving the highest quality of services and positive outcomes as a consequence thereof.
