Background and Discussion:

The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention (HAVI) is an organization focused on addressing and preventing community violence through hospital-based violence interruption programs (HVIP). The HAVI launches and supports these programs nationally by providing technical assistance, resources, and trainings. The HAVI has been consulting with Harris County Justice Administration Department to assess the interest, readiness, and resources needed to implement an HVIP. Public Health is seeking the HAVI’s technical assistance services to establish an HVIP with its Community Health and Violence Prevention Services Division. The original contract was awarded to HAVI at Commissioners Court on February 8, 2022 for $100,000.

Expected Impact:

The combined efforts of Harris County partners and the HAVI’s experience will result in an HVIP that will allow medical professionals and trusted community partners to provide comprehensive, trauma-informed care to patients impacted by community violence.
