Background and Discussion:

Traffic signals are installed to improve the safety operation of an intersection. The subject traffic signal was installed 20+ years ago and it is recommended to rebuild to the traffic signal to current standards and specifications.

Expected Impact:

Rebuilding the traffic signal will bring the infrastructure to current standards and specifications and reduce overall maintenance cost. It will also significantly reduce the risk of failure during a catastrophic event.

Alternative Options:

To continue to maintain the existing traffic signal and slowly replace degrading parts as they fail. This may potentially be more costly and incurs a risk of failure due to aging infrastructure, which is a safety concern.
