Request for approval of a Study Report prepared by R. G. Miller Engineers for the Drainage Improvements to Timberlake Estates Subdivision - 2022, UPIN 19103MF17E01, Precinct 3 (project was awarded prior to launch of County’s M/WBE Program).
end
Background and Discussion:
The project is located in northwest Harris County, primarily in the White Oak Bayou watershed and partially in the Cypress Creek watershed. It is north of Cypress North Houston Road, east of Huffmeister Road, and west of N. Eldridge Parkway. Timberlake Estates consists of roadside ditches that drain into HCFCD channel K163-00-00. The proposed improvements are to regrade the roadside ditches, install a storm sewer system beneath roadside ditches, convert an amenity pond into a detention pond and connect that to the drainage system for mitigation. This study report is an executive summary with supporting appendices of detail to describe the analysis and recommendations from the study phase to include surveying, geotechnical, environmental, and drainage recommendations to be utilized for the proposed design of the project.
Expected Impact:
This project seeks to reduce flood risk and strengthen resiliency in Harris County by assisting in the alleviation of structural flood damage to homes in the community. This study report approval is a step in the process to reduce the financial, physical, and emotional burden flood damage places on homeowners and will reduce the financial impact of recovery costs to the Timberlake Estates subdivision homeowners, Harris County, and FEMA. The fiscal impact for this project will come from the 1080 Funding for the Recovery and Resiliency Division subdivision projects with the long-term goal of reducing drainage costs in the future. No impact to project schedule or staffing anticipated.
Alternative Options:
No alternative option for this project is possible other than performing no additional work. However, in this area, the subdivision will continue to be a risk of flooding and structural damage to homes in the community.
