Background and Discussion:
Harris County Public Health initiated collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to support the work of the Substance Use Prevention program. Baylor College of Medicine began supporting the HCSO substance use program by providing professional and layperson opioid overdose prevention training development. Additionally, BCM will assist in reducing barriers to prescribers completing the requirements for the buprenorphine-waiver and provide practical guidance for waiver utilization. Between September 1, 2022, through January 31, 2023, as full compensation for rendered services, the County agrees to pay an amount not to exceed $20,989.00. This compensation is part of, not in addition to, the $50,000.00.
Expected Impact:
Increase the availability of medication for Opioid use disorder and increase the knowledge of evidence-based opioid prescribing guidelines for primary care clinicians within primary care serving the Greater Houston community.
Alternative Options:
Taking no action would result in a risk of failing to meet a requirement of the Overdose Data to Action goals.
