Request for approval of an agreement with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Inc. (HLSR) to allow the department to provide MOD K9 Teams as a security measure during the 2023 rodeo season with overtime reimbursed by HLSR.

Background and Discussion:
The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo has been a Greater Harris County event since 1932, and now draws approximately 2 million visitors during the season. The Sheriff’s Office has provided the use of MOD K9 Teams during the event in 2019 and in 2022.
Expected Impact:
The addition of the MOD K9 Teams will provide an added layer of security for patrons who attend the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo events at NRG Park.
Alternative Options:
While there are private companies who perform similar services, they do not have the immediate law enforcement response when confronting individuals suspected of carrying firearms or explosive devices.
