Background and Discussion:
On November 10, 2020, Commissioners Court engaged in a discussion regarding the creation of an immigrant legal service program for indigent Harris County residents who had been victimized by crime. The discussion resulted in a resolution directing Community Services Department (CSD) to design, administer funds, and oversee an immigrant legal services program for indigent Harris County residents who had been victimized by crime. On July 20, 2021, Commissioners Court authorized the allocation of $500,000 for the Program’s Guidelines. The Program shall provide direct legal representation to indigent Harris County residents who were victims of crime.
Request by the Office of the Purchasing Agent for approval of contract renewals with Baker Ripley (95,000.00), Tahirih Justice Center (69,225.00), Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston (163,117.00), and Galveston-Houston Immigration Representation Project (67,618.00) for the Survivor Services in Immigration Law Program for the Community Services Department for the period of January 25, 2023 - January 24, 2024, (210254) for a total of $394,960.
