Background and Discussion:
This project will provide overtime funding for targeted law enforcement operations in areas with high rates of violent crime and overtime funding for community engagement forums to address the negative perception of law enforcement in areas with the greatest amount of gang and violent crime.

Expected Impact:
The project activities are to 1) To provide additional resources to the Texas Anti-Gang Center to fund additional commissioned officer overtime for targeted enforcement operations in identified areas where criminal activity historically has been committed, is actively being committed and known criminal suspects are known to frequent; and 2) To continue to develop "police legitimacy and trust" within disadvantaged communities in order to increase the level of overall cooperation with citizens and law enforcement effectiveness resulting in reduced levels of crime. It is our expectation, over time and with consistency, to develop actionable intelligence on career/serial criminal offenders and their organizations to significantly disrupt or dismantle their criminal activities and that in conducting enhanced community engagement activities, it will increase law enforcement/community cooperation and engage open dialogue in communities where this may not have previously existed.
