Background and Discussion:

The Jacob and Terese Hershey Foundation is a private philanthropic grantmaking foundation dedicated to environmental justice; the health of the public, climate, air, water, and nature; and the interdependent relationship between humans, public parks and open spaces, nature, and the environment. The Foundation primarily supports work in and around the Houston and Austin regions, as well as across Texas on issues of statewide significance.

After an initial Letter of Inquiry was submitted for consideration, the Foundation formally invited OCA to submit a full proposal to request grant funds, which is due on September 30, 2022.

Expected Impact:

The potential grant funding would be for $75,000 to hire a consultant and facilitator who will help ensure that climate equity is centered throughout the planning process and that community members help co-create emissions reduction strategies with meaningful economic, environmental, and social impact.

Alternative Options:

Not apply for foundation funding and risk not having a robust community-driven planning process
