Background and Discussion:  

Work Texas Training Center (Work Texas) has awarded the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department (HCJPD) $79,726.40 to fund one full-time equivalent Director of Workforce Development for the period of October 15, 2022 through October 14, 2023.  The Department will pay for fringe benefits in the amount of $36,150.00.  The position will assist HCJPD through its Education Transition Center in locating employment and creating career opportunities for youth who are court-involved.  Work Texas provided funding for this position in 2020 and 2021.

 

Expected Impact:

The Director of Workforce Development (Director) will serve as the HCJPD single point of contact for youth related vocational training and employment programs. The Director shall provide day-to-day oversight of vocational training and employment programs, and work with the community and employers to eliminate barriers to employment and hire youth who are court-involved. The goal is to provide strategic planning and guidance Executive Management and staff in all areas of HCJPD’s implementation of youth vocational and employment programs.
