Background and Discussion:

Officers participating in the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) will make enforcement of DWI,

Speed, Safety Belt, Intersection Traffic Control, and Distracted Driving offenses their top priority.

Enforcement will occur during the following holiday periods: Christmas/New Year’s, Spring Break,

Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. The goal is to reduce crashes, fatalities, and injuries,

through high visibility enforcement and public education.

 

Expected Impact:

A reduction in crashes, fatalities, and injuries related to speed, alcohol or drug impairment, distracted

driving, intersection crashes, or lack of restraint devices is expected.

 

Alternative Options:

No known viable alternative to accomplish the goal of reducing crashes, fatalities, and injuries with grant

funded overtime.
