Background and Discussion:
The Respect for Marriage Act passed the House of Representatives <https://www.npr.org/2022/07/19/1112213293/house-vote-same-sex-marriage> in July 2022 by a vote of 267 to 157. The Act declares that marriages performed in one state must be recognized in all states, without respect to “sex, race, ethnicity, or national origin,” and codifies same-sex marriages for the purpose of benefits under federal law.
