Background and Discussion:

During the Hurricane Harvey event that inundated Harris County, over 750,000 vehicles were destroyed due to flood water. The supply of affordable used vehicles for much of this entire region was destroyed while also making the replacement cost for a vehicle out of reach of many low-to-moderate-income (LMI) households. Since many of these households affected were one-car families, the ability to commute for work, medical care, housing, social service needs, and education was severely diminished.

This application intends to provide funding to the Harris County Community Services Department’s Transit Services for Generation Park Micro Transit Services that will serve over 800 passengers with destinations being either Lone Star College or the Disaster Recovery/Demonstration Route transfer points.

Expected Impact:

CSD is requesting $878,592 in CDBG-DR 2017 program funds for the Generation Park Micro Transit Services project.
