Background and Discussion:

This project is located in northwest Harris County in the Cypress Creek watershed.  Ravensway South consists of an existing underground storm sewer system that drains to the Cypress N. Houston street drainage system and eventually into the existing E133-00-00 channel. The scope approved on Commissioners Court (June 29, 2021) consisted of re-evaluating the recommendations made during the planning study of this project.  Planned improvements are still in design, but current scope is to upsize existing storm sewer pipe in the neighborhood, add additional storm sewer pipe, and increase the number of inlets to the system to improve localized flooding in the neighborhood. This study report is an executive summary with supporting appendices of detail to describe the analysis and recommendations from the study phase to include surveying, geotechnical, environmental, and drainage recommendations to be utilized for the proposed design of the project.

Expected Impact:

This project seeks to reduce flood risk and strengthen resiliency in Harris County by assisting in the alleviation of structural flood damage to homes in the community. This study report is a step in the process to reduce the financial, physical, and emotional burden flood damage places on homeowners and will reduce the financial impact of recovery costs to the Ravensway South subdivision homeowners, Harris County, and FEMA. The fiscal impact for this project will come from the 1080 Funding for the Recovery and Resiliency Division subdivision projects with the long-term goal of reducing drainage costs in the future. No impact to project schedule or staffing anticipated.

Alternative Options:

No alternative option for this project is possible other than performing no additional work. However, in this area, the subdivision will continue to be a risk of flooding and structural damage to homes in the community.
