Background and Discussion:
Harris County Public Health (HCPH) was awarded and received funding from CDC to develop programs and policies to prevent childhood lead poisoning and other housing related health hazards. To date, HCPH has initiated several lead poisoning prevention and lead education activities in the community by partnering with organizations to provide lead presentations and attending outreach events in vulnerable populations. In addition, the program has developed case coordination services to families of children with elevated blood lead levels.
Expected Impact:
The Harris County Public Health Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program supports overarching program strategies related to: 1. primary prevention of childhood lead poisoning through targeted, population-based policy interventions with a focus on community-based approaches for lead hazard elimination.
