Background and Discussion:

This grant supports 9 staff positions that are used to meet grant objectives for the treatment and prevention of Tuberculosis (TB).  Harris County is ranked # 3 in the state of Texas with the most TB cases. In 2020 Harris County had over 102 cases of Tuberculosis this excludes (City of Houston). During the pandemic the TB program never stopped providing treatment or services to the Harris County community. The matching funds will come from the Medicaid Administration Claims special revenue fund.

Expected Impact:

The Tuberculosis program provides comprehensive medical care that include medical evaluations by medical provider, Nurse case management, X-Rays, laboratory services and drug monitoring of medications. The field staff provide directly observed therapy in patients homes as well as video directly observed therapy. The surveillance team provides targeted testing for contact tracing to prevent the spread of the disease.
