Background and Discussion:
WorkTexas Training Center is a Houston based non-profit organization which operates a vocational high school as well as an adult trade school. Within the framework of services offered, WorkTexas Training Center operates a program that is of benefit to the youth served by the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department. The Harris County Juvenile Probation Department has identified space within 6500 Chimney Rock which can be utilized as classroom space. Construction to convert the space will be at WorkTexas Training Center’s sole cost and expense with the County’s approval and oversight.
Expected Impact:
WorkTexas Training Center operates programs and services which are of benefit to the youth served by the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department. WorkTexas Training Center’s mission is to prepare high school students and adults with the skills and virtues they need to enter the workforce ready to contribute to an employer’s business as well as advance in that field or another field of their choice. This arrangement will focus on residents of Harris County to provide them with these vocational skills.
Alternative Options:
Harris County is the owner of the property located at 6500 Chimney Rock. Portions of the complex are currently being used to house the Education Transition Center and the Burnett-Bayland Rehabilition Center. The Harris County Juvenile Probation Department has identified the location as best suited to benefit the youth served with WorkTexas Training Center’s services.
