Background and Discussion:
A native of San Antonio, TX, Deacon Gilbert moved to Houston in 1982 where he began his work in supporting underserved youth. Deacon Gilbert joined the Special Youth Services of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston in 1996 as Pastoral Minister and has mentored children in the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center for the past 25 years. His initiatives have included interfaith Bible studies and faith sharing programs, weekly youth groups, one-on-one prayers, church and museum field trips, and advocating/supporting youth in court processes. He gradually extended himself beyond Harris County, visiting youth and facilitating Bible study at the Gulf Coast Trades Center. Deacon Gilbert earned a Ph.D. in Theocentric Psychology from Liberty University and is a proud father of two sons and one daughter and the loving grandfather of 5 grandchildren.
