Background and Discussion:
The project has completed program year 1 and has begun to understand the barriers into reporting foodborne illness for Harris County residents. A survey completed among 514 county residents will be used to develop and test messages that will encourage and increase reporting foodborne illness.
Expected Impact:
As a currently funded partner of the Environmental Health Specialists Network, grant funds are used to continue efforts toward reducing foodborne illness in Harris County, Texas and the US. Our long-term goal is to reduce foodborne illness and strengthen surveillance and response capabilities in Harris County, Texas and the US. The overall objective, pursuant to our long-term goal, is the use of a systems-based approach to enhance the multiple interconnected areas of our foodborne illness and outbreak program concurrently ensuring that it will maximally benefit from an increase in foodborne illness complaints.
Alternative Options:
The alternative to this request will be that Harris County will not be able to complete the deliverables outlined in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) grant funding awarded.
