Background and Discussion:

HCJPD has been working to transform the youth justice system.   This has been and will continue to be done by working diligently to reduce the number of youth in the system, improving the services families and youth receive, addressing needs, and reinvesting in communities to maximize resources and more deeply engage communities to support better outcomes for youth.  As a result, we know by empowering youth and engaging them in positive developmental strategies as opposed to relying on punitive based practices, such as engaging youth in workforce development, teaching marketable skills and working toward gainful employment, that this will provide much needed support and opportunities that have been lacking.  This grant will help HCJPD with our transformation work.

Expected Impact:

HCJPD will be able to utilize grant funds to pay for the position of Director of Industry Partnerships which will allow HCJPD to increase the number of partners working together to provide justice involved youth with the training necessary to obtain marketable skills and gainful employment.

Alternative Options:

If these grant funds are not awarded or accepted, HCJPD would not have the benefit of this position.
