title
Request by the County Judge for approval to accept grant adjustments from the Office of the Governor/Homeland Security Grants Division as part of the FY 2019 Homeland Security Grant Program for the HazMat Maintenance and Community Preparedness and Regional Planning projects in the amount of $192,617 and ($192,617), respectively, with no required cash match, for the Urban Area Security Initiative.
end
Background and Discussion:
This grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security via the Office of the Governor, Homeland Security Grants Division and includes a suite of risk-based grants to assist state, local, tribal and territorial efforts in preventing, protecting against, mitigating, responding to and recovering from acts of terrorism and other threats related to regional security. This grant provides grantees with the resources required for implementation of the National Preparedness System and working toward the National Preparedness Goal of a secure and resilient nation. The County has received funding from this grant program since 2002.
Expected Impact:
If accepted, the County will deobligate $192,617 from the Community Preparedness and Regional Planning award due to award closure. The funds will be reallocated to the Fire Marshal's Office HazMat award to impact the County's ability to communicate, detect, and decontaminate during their response to terrorist events and other emergencies.
Alternative Options:
Without this funding the County would need to find alternate funding, possibly utilize general funds, to maintain a robust Homeland Security Program.
