Request by Public Health Services for authorization to accept from the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists grant funds in the amount of $50,000, with no required match, for the Pilot Project of Surveillance and Investigation of SARS-CoV-2 in Animals Grant.

Background and Discussion:
The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have selected Harris County Veterinary Public Health to participate in the pilot project for the surveillance and investigation of SARS-CoV-2 in animals. Through the testing of cats and dogs in unincorporated Harris County, the project seeks to better understand the role of companion animals in the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and develop a schematic for the veterinary community (private clinics and shelters) to continue testing and reporting on this relationship.
