Background and Discussion:
Thomas Street is the first HIV free standing clinic in the nation. Harris Health System took over in 1989 to provide care to people impacted and living with HIV at the height of the crisis.
The legacy of Thomas Street is tremendously impactful because it was able to provide a safe place where people impacted by and living with HIV could receive compassionate health care.
Expected Impact:
Harris Health has since moved the clinic from Thomas Street and continues to provide HIV Services Ambulatory Care at a state-of-the-art facility, Quentin Mease Health Center.
