Background and Discussion:
The project replaces six roller-type steel gates installed in 1991 by the US Army Corps of Engineers and turned over to the Flood Control District for maintenance and operation in 1998. In 2020, the Gates were inspected using an underwater camera. Based on the results of the inspection, the Engineer of Record recommended removing Gates from the structure within the next five years and repairing or replacing as needed. This project was awarded based on installing 1 new Gate and refurbishing 5 of the existing Gates. The duration for this scope of work was 174 days. To minimize the cost and schedule risk associated with attempting to refurbishing 34-year-old Gates, the scope was changed to 6 new Gates and there was no cost increase associated with this change. The new Gates shop fabrication has taken 173 days. An additional 120 days are needed to finish the project.
