Background and Discussion:
All four schools are located in Harris County Precinct 2 and in areas where there are no other city, county or SPARK Park within a 10-minue walk. The improvements to the school playgrounds of Edison Middle School, Port Houston Elementary School, Golfcrest Elementary School, and Davila Elementary School will be paid for using funding from the Spark School Park Program which in turn has received funding commitments from private foundations wanting to improve the area.

Expected Impact:
Improvements will benefit the students during the school day and the community after school, on weekends and holidays. The improvements will help students from low-economic homes. There is no cost to Harris County for operations or maintenance. Spark parks are on school grounds. HISD will maintain the grounds for a period of 10 years. The precinct would provide the tree installations.

Alternative Options:
Without the improvements the surrounding community will be denied easy access to public parks and recreational facilities.
