Background and Discussion:
Under the authority of the Harris County Juvenile Board, the Education Services Division provides educational programs for expelled students, delinquent youth placed in county-operated juvenile facilities, and students on probation who want an alternative to the traditional high school campus. The Juvenile Probation Department is solely responsible for all programs within Excel Academy Charter School.
The Texas Education Agency has appropriate additional funds for Excel Academy Charter School to use for instructional materials for students. The Instructional Materials Allotment has three parts: an instructional materials and technology allotment, a state board of education-approved instructional materials entitlement, and a state-developed open education resource entitlement.
