Background and Discussion:
The total grant awards will be $181,105 in General Funds to meet the County’s match requirements.
The HB 407 requires that an applicant receive a qualifying grant from the county in which that agency serves home-delivered meals to be considered for the State funded Texans Feeding Texans grant. Additionally, counties are required to provide an amount equal to $.25 per each person 60-years-old or older so that agencies may receive the full share of the $8.4 million available from TDA. This amount is equal to $181,104.75 or more based on the 2020 U.S. Census population numbers of 724,419 individuals that are 60 years old or older living in Harris County. Last year, the Commissioners Court approved funding to meet the $181,105 leverage requirement. The County grant in turn leveraged over $2.2 million in State funds to agencies providing meals for homebound individuals in Harris County.
