Background and Discussion:
Officers participating in the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) will make enforcement of DWI
Speed, Safety Belt, Hazardous Moving Violations, and Distracted Driving offenses their top priority.
Enforcement will occur from 10/01/2022 through 09/30/2023. The goal is to reduce commercial motor
vehicle crashes, fatalities, and injuries, through high visibility enforcement and public education.
Expected Impact:
A reduction in crashes, fatalities, and injuries related to speed, alcohol, or drug impairment, distracted
driving, hazardous driving, or lack of restraint devices is expected.
Alternative Options:
No known viable alternative to accomplish the goal of reducing crashes, fatalities, and injuries with grant
funded overtime.
