Request by the Office of County Administration for an Executive Session for discussion and possible reappointment of Saami Baig, a nominee from the County Judge, to the Harris County Safe School Commission, Position 5, for a term ending May 8, 2027.

Background and Discussion:
The Safe School Commission was established by Commissioners Court as an ad-hoc advisory group in June 2022. The commission was charged with developing recommendations on how the Court could support all 25 Independent School Districts' and Private Schools' safety strategies in time for the 2022-2023 school year. The Court reappointed members during the 2023-2024 school year and later extended the appointment terms of commission members beyond the 2023-2024 school year and through December 31, 2024. In August 2024, the Court approved bylaws and established the commission as a standing advisory commission to continue to review, work, and develop recommendations related to school safety strategies year-round. Members serve two-year terms.
Expected Impact:
Reappointment of an expired position assigned to and previously appointed by the County Judge, which will enable continuity of operations and leadership on the commission.
