World Environment Day was established by the United Nations in 1972 and continues to raise awareness, inspire change, and drive global action for a healthier, more sustainable planet, mobilizing millions of people, thousands of organizations, and governments across more than 150 countries each year.
The local Citizens' Environmental Coalition has worked since its inception in 1971 to coordinate the activities of the region's environmental organizations, foster collaboration and amplify the important work of the non-profit community.
