Background and Discussion:

Challenger 7 Memorial Park is an existing Harris County Park located in League City. Proposed development includes work in three distinct areas. The existing boardwalk area will include removal of the existing boardwalk and replacement with a new structure. Learning components including an immersive classroom, outdoor classroom, and areas for future signage have been identified. The project also contains the addition of a trailhead with bike parking. Area near the existing boat ramp will be repurposed to include additional walking trails, seating area, floating kayak launch and planting. The existing playground will also be renovated to include new safety fall surface, play equipment and benches.

Expected Impact:

The project will enhance and bring welcomed renovations to the existing Challenger 7 Memorial Park. Challenger 7 will be a destination park which will provide trail connectivity, floating kayak launch, recreational and educational opportunities to Harris County residents and visitors.

Alternative Options:

If no action is taken on award recommendation, the project will not be able to proceed with construction and renovation efforts which will impact improvements to the park.
