Background and Discussion:

The purpose of this contract change is to expand the footprint of the basin excavation to the southwest to fully utilize available partner funding, resulting in approximately 79,000 additional cubic yards of excavation. This expansion will increase the contract value by approximately $996,823.45. The overall benefit to this expansion is that it will increase the basin capacity and thus further reduce the risk of flooding in the local area. This contract change will add 45 days to the schedule.

Expected Impact:

This change will allow the contractor to construct the project so that Harris County can further reduce the risk of flooding in the area.

Alternative Options:

This is an active construction contract, so there are not many alternatives to approving a change order other than cancelling the contract which is not recommended as by doing so the Flood Control District could lose partnership funding and would prevent construction of further flood risk reduction improvements.
