Background and Discussion:

Harris County Public Health, Community Health and Violence Prevention Services (CHVPS) Division uses public

health approaches to prevent and disrupt violence in Harris County. CHVPS was established with goals to prevent violence and improve the health, wellbeing, and self-sufficiency of Harris County community members. RISE was provided with $500k in additional funding as part of the FY25 budget for expansion. HART’s expansion was approved in 2023 with funding provided in FY25 for expansion into a new district. To launch the expansion projects, we are requesting eight (8) Emergency Medical Technicians, eight (8) Crisis Intervention Specialists, and two (2) Outreach Workers.

Expected Impact:

These positions will support the expansion of both violence prevention programs to provide a broader reach that helps reduce violence on a larger scale. Reducing violence and providing alternative 911 services lead to safer neighborhoods, better quality of life and improved mental and physical health for constituents.
